Portland, OR—October 4, 2024
CETI, a creative and emerging technology institute, is set to launch XRchive: (Hi)stories and Visions of Block 14 at Lone Fir Cemetery, a series of augmented storytelling experiences by the CETI community and partners. These vignettes are a poetic interpretation of history, of fragmented memories, of hopes, and what might have or could have been, and visions of a possible future of the Chinese community buried at Block 14.
Supported in part by an Oregon Community Foundation Creative Heights grant, CETI collaborated with a broad and diverse community of participants. Through emerging technologies, research, and the imaginations of artists, technologists, storytellers, and community members, XRchive: Block 14 is an offering to inspire conversations and to acknowledge and celebrate the Chinese community’s contribution toward building Portland.
“Beyond the visual spectacle, XRchive: (Hi)stories and Visions of Block 14 encourages viewers to delve deeper, sparking conversations, about racism and the struggles of immigrants. This project illustrates the profound impact when cultural significance is intertwined with emerging technologies, serving as a catalyst for reflection, urging us to confront the shadows of the past and move forward to a brighter future” says Ran Sheng, a lead artist in XRchive: Block 14.
Experience the launch of XRchive: (Hi)stories and Visions Block 14 on October 11–12, at Lone Fir Cemetery. For more details on this ongoing project, please visit our website.
