Long summer weekends of cutting-edge workshops, creative experiments, critical dialogue, and hack sessions, combining emerging technologies, art, ideas, and data
This summer, we explore and experiment with different forms of learning— participatory, experiential, formal and informal—to engage a diverse intergenerational community in emerging technology. We emphasize craft and making with skill-building workshops (beginner to advanced), collaborative creation, projects, show-and-tell demos, interspersed with inspiring critical dialogue on impact, trends, policies, and applications. Ending with weeks of mentored lab time for experimentation, project creation, and hack days to craft interactive/immersive stories, innovations, and experiences that will culminate in a collaborative show in October.
Programming includes: electronics, audio/visual programming, machine learning, photogrammetry, projection mapping, video tools, and wearables.
Themes
Creating interactive/responsive/connected experiences with data (sensor tech, electronics, microcontrollers and PCBs); AI as a creative assistant
Who is it for?
For skill-building, reskilling, upskilling, and career transformation to build expertise and fluency in emerging technology. For anybody who wants to create with imagination and impact: professionals, researchers, educators, students, and community—including artists, designers, ecologists, scientists, futurists, policymakers, data scientists, researchers, technologists, engineers, and innovators.
We are also supporting and assisting with two Building Blocks 2 Success Summer Camps for youth
Creating Immersive 3D experiences: A BB2S Camp for elementary and middle school youth
July 15–19 at Lloyd Center Mall
A multimedia hands-on exploration to create an augmented XR experience in the Lloyd Center Mall—a series of 4–5 creations to fill empty storefronts, to reimagine the mall as spaces of delight, art, joy, food, and culture.
Delve into the world of immersive creation in a week of hands-on collaborative experimentation, design, and editing. We’ll explore the capabilities of various AV tools, including DSLR cameras, 360 cameras, microphones, 3D scanning, XR (think Pokemon Go) and drones, alongside software for production to craft captivating multimedia projects.
Enchanted Objects: A BB2S Design + Build Camp for middle and high school youth
July 22–26 at McDaniel High School
A week of hands-on collaborative creative experimentation, design, prototyping, and fabrication to explore the possibilities and opportunities of working with digital fabrications tools including: the basics of 3D scanning, design, modeling, and creation; working with electronics and microcontrollers fabrication tools to create enchanted objects.
