Hanson Hosein is a trusted convener and education leader. He is the President of HRH Media Group LLC, a creative strategy firm and co-founded the Communication Leadership graduate program at the University of Washington. Hanson is presently supporting a new generation of “real-time” leaders through his Wind Rose Studio method: www.hansonhosein.com
Hanson’s work as an early practitioner of multimedia storytelling is documented in his “Storyteller Uprising” book: as an Emmy and Overseas Press Club award-winning journalist for NBC News, a solo TV war correspondent with MSNBC and CBC and as a documentary director whose “Independent America” films have been streamed and broadcast worldwide. While at the UW, Hanson was recognized as Seattle's "Most Influential" as he engaged publicly with the region's leaders on-camera and on-stage.
This confluence of leadership, learning, and storytelling propelled Hanson into unique creative and consultative roles — from startups (Factal, Tableau Software, Iterable), to well-established organizations (Microsoft, Adobe, REI, CreativeLive, the U.S. government) to agencies (Weber Shandwick, Edelman, WE Communications). He has served on the boards of the Pacific Science Center, the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Climate Solutions, Puget Sound Public Radio KUOW, the University of Washington Club, and the Evergreen School. Inspired by new approaches to community power and trust, Hanson has played a founding role in nascent endeavors such as Prosperity of the Commons and MIRA! (Mobilize Innovation, Re-imagine Agency!).
Hanson has guest lectured at other universities, including Harvard, Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, UC Santa Cruz, and Boston University. He hosted the inaugural TEDx Seattle, participated in TEDx Change (with Bill Gates Sr.), then spoke at TEDx Oregon State University. Hanson conceived a leadership interview series that led to his exclusive on-camera conversations with Jeff Bezos (Amazon), Howard Schultz (Starbucks), Jessie Woolley-Wilson (DreamBox Learning) and performing artist Meklit Hadero, among others.
During the global pandemic crisis, Hanson moderated the University of Washington’s "Co-Existing with COVID-19" Public Lectures series, convened its global commencement program, and led conversations on misinformation in partnership with the UW Center for an Informed Public. Hanson also advised “Backto.Biz” a nationwide small business recovery initiative.
Hanson has law degrees from McGill University and the University of Paris, and a master's in journalism from Columbia University.
