Place Oddity

Abhijeet Prem, Nikita Andester, Rebecca Watkins, Chris Balduc, Victoria Garcia, Rhody Andester, Justine Lockhart

Medium: LEDs, fabric, wire, foam, paint, knitting, projections, sculpture, organic materials

“Place Oddity” explores the connection between the alien and the familiar. Crafted from everyday objects and homey materials, this alien subterranean world is a place for folks to cozy up in the uncomfortable. This installation plays with the senses, especially highlighting a visual response to sound. Inspired by umwelt – the way the world around us impacts our behaviors – Place Oddity invites you to find coziness in the strangeness, and a sense of familiarity in the spaces between tech and nature’s magical chaos.

Abhijeet Prem: Abhijeet Prem is an ECE Graduate student at Portland State University who explores hardware, videography, cameras, editing, and sound. As an artist, he is particularly inspired by the intersection between accessibility, found objects, tech, and sound.
