Lanterns

Ran Sheng, TJ Orloski,

Medium: DIgital, agumented reality

The tradition of flying Kongming sky lanterns has deep roots in Chinese culture. They are released during festivals and special occasions. People write their wishes, prayers, or the names of deceased loved ones on the lanterns before releasing them into the sky. Releasing these lanterns is believed to send messages to the heavens, symbolizing the release of worries and the hopes for a better future.

Each lantern, bearing a Chinese immigrant’s name buried at Block 14, rises from the earth, ascends gracefully, and vanishes into the heavens.
